A tutorial for distribution protective relay applications

Abstract

This paper is a tutorial covering relay applications in distribution networks. For relay engineers, projects involving distribution systems take up the majority of their time. In many cases, attrition has robbed them of their mentors, leaving an experience void that is difficult to fill. This paper will give them help in understanding the various methods used to protect equipment in distribution systems as well as some ideas for better practices.
