The radiation element of the proposed antenna is composed of two orthogonal patch dipoles to realise a wideband operation. A metallic reflector is used to achieve the unidirectional radiation. To further improve the antenna bandwidth, an air layer is introduced. A simple feed network. is used to convert unbalanced feed to balanced feed. The results indicate that the prototype has a good performance within the frequency band from 8GHz to 12GHz for return loss ≥ 10dB.
