Abstract
The linear sampling method (LSM) is a highly effective method to detect the shape of complex geometry. In this paper, we propose a novel kind of LSM using metamaterial (MTM) leaky wave antennas (LWAs) to reconstruct a multi-layered shape with modal forward scattering. By surrounding the target with the MTM LWAs, we demonstrate that the LSM is capable of reconstructing shapes efficiently in three dimensions (3D). The frequency-space mapping characteristics of MTM LWAs can lead to a comprehensive 3D microwave tomography, which provides a more efficient approach compared with traditional LSM methods. This unique combination of LSM and frequency scanning MTM antennas results in a highly effective and systematic method to reconstruct the 3D shape for unknown objects.
