Cooperativa para a Dignidade do Maranhão: Um Estudo de Caso

Abstract

The present study had as objective the Cooperative for the Dignity of Maranhao – CODIGMA. With the next aim: To identify and to analyze the experience of the cooperative as a solidarity economy initiative adapted to workers in risk of being recruited for labor analogous to slavery. The used methodology was a descriptive research with a case study. It was used two different tools for data collection in a sample of eleven members of the cooperative. Data had been organized in figures, graphics and descriptive paragraphs. Data analysis was qualitative and quantitative. The study showed that the cooperative has achieved its goals, however, still in a limited way due to different factors. As a conclusion, it can be said that CODIGMA is a reference of social organization for job and incomes creation, based on the principles of self-management, sustainability and social responsibility for other organizations, groups, communities that live in situations of exclusion.
