Abstract

The first step that should be performed when developing a knowledge based system is the design and implementation of the knowledge base that has to be coherent, complete and non-redundant, and is generated starting from the ontology of the application domain. The paper presents the architecture of a knowledge based system that is under development, and has as goal the optimum exploitation of the oil/gas reservoir by using smart wells, and focus on the description of SmartWellOnto, a preliminary version of an ontology for smart wells
