Improving efficiency of ultra-high power arc furnaces with thyristor control voltage of furnace transformer

Abstract

This article presents possibility of control of secondary voltage thyristor of the EAF-180 furnace transformer installed at OJSC Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works. Active power supplied to the furnace influences on dispersion current electric arc negatively. Based on the research, the authors propose a new concept of a combined system of automatic control of electric arc furnace modes that increases its stability.
