THE ROLE OF THE PACIFIC ISLANDS FORUM IN THE GREAT GAME OF THE WORLD POWERS

Abstract

This article examines the latest trends in the geopolitical situation in Oceania, a vast region where the fiercest competition for spheres of influence between the two titans, the United States and China, is currently taking place. Caught between two fires are 12 independent countries of Oceania, whose main regional interstate organization, the Pacific Islands Forum, has been subjected to foreign policy influence and now it is at risk of losing its fundamental role as a mechanism for bringing the South Pacific nations together, instead dividing them apart.
