Abstract

We studied the role of image prosumers in the context of the Venezuelan protests between 2014 and 2018, years of high confrontation in which images that circulated challenged the government and its controls. We refer to them with the category of "uncomfortable photographs" due to their direct confrontation with power and the questions they pose due to their violent, outrageous and disturbing content. From the documentary review and consultation with experts, we analyze these photographs and trace a route in which we investigate the relevance of their mass dissemination and reflect on their impact, taking as reference the ideas of George Didi Huberman, Joan Fontcuberta, Manuel Castells and Guy Debord.
