Abstract
A previously proposed intelligent pixel mobile multimedia communicator (IPM/sup 3/C) integrates the capture, coding and display of optical images into a single array of pixel processors. The image compression and decompression required for real-time coding of video is achieved by parallel processing within the array elements. In this paper the intelligent pixel (IP) communicator is described and the effect of the various processing stages on the spatial frequency content of the images is considered.
