Lien An

Abstract

This chapter describes Lien An's long career in education in the school of pedagogy after she left her family in 1954 to answer the call of the government in Hanoi. It mentions how Lien An had to take her daughters to live with a peasant family in a village sixteen kilometers away during the period of U.S. bombing. It also discloses Lien An's life in Hanoi that revolved around her studies, political training, and standing in long lines for food rations. The chapter talks about the Ministry of Education's declaration for the return of teachers to southern Vietnam and Lien An's appointment as principal of Le Quy Don, which formerly Lycée Chasseloup–Laubat. It narrates Lien An's tenure at the school from 1977 until her retirement in 1986.
