Explosives detection using an ion mobility spectrometer for airport security

Abstract

The Barringer IONSCAN Model 400, an ion mobility spectrometer, is used extensively at airports around the world for the detection of traces of explosives on carry-on luggage, hold luggage, mail and freight. It enables the operator to quickly screen suspicious objects for the presence of explosives residues on their surfaces.
