Abstract

: What is at stake in Walter Ullmann’s interpretation of medieval political thought? This contribution reconsiders some of Ullmann’s writings. It demonstrates how his historiography integrated the tensions of the Cold War and emphasized the hegemonic role played by Anglo-Saxon culture in the construction of the democratic world.
