Service and resource identification in B-ISDN

Abstract

It was recognised early in the definition o fISDN services that there isa close link between the way services are statically defined and the way in which the related signalling protocols dynamically manipulate the various resource and service elements required for a call. This paper proposes to expand the at present limited set of definitions available in narrowband ISDN to 4 interrelated elements, allowing both the explicit identi cation of each element of the call and the decoupling between them. The purpose is to arrive at a clear definition of the distinct service and resource elements which have to be identified in the signalling protocols.
