Abstract

With the increase in renewable generation in power systems, it is critical to accurately determine the capacity value of renewables during generation planning to maintain system reliability. This review paper is intended for readers who are seeking to understand the basics of reliability evaluation and gives an insight on the factors that affect the capacity value of solar resources. The capacity value estimation methods are discussed briefly, followed by a discussion of the factors that may affect the capacity value of solar resources.
