Abstract
Wireless technology will play a significant role in the development of the "information superhighway". Most industry forecasts see the wireless market continuing to grow at it's current rate over the next several years with some predicting that half of all communications will involve a wireless component within the next ten years. This rapid growth within the wireless telecom market segment coupled with the technology changes in the industry is resulting in shorter product life cycles, reduced prices, rapid manufacturing ramps and demand for higher quality products in order for the wireless equipment suppliers to compete for market share. These pressures, in turn, provide a challenging opportunity for manufacturers of power products. There are eleven attributes that are important to the wireless equipment providers when evaluating suppliers of power products. Based on study results as reported in this paper, there are significant improvements that must be made before providers of power products can meet the stringent expectations embodied in these attributes. The OEMs will continue to expect more from their suppliers in terms of solutions to their power problems, e.g.. products with increased functionality, reduced costs, improved delivery and closer communications.<>
