Abstract

A note by the editors of Literary Review: The recent meeting of the Central Committee of the CPSU on questions of hastening scientific and technological progress emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to the tasks outlined. This approach requires bringing together the judgments of scholars and the "swift, energetic" approach of journalists, who are able to register the pulse of life itself. With this in mind, Svetlana Aleksievich, a journalist, presents interviews she held with people who left the village for the city. What sort of person is he, the new city dweller?
