Abstract
In this paper, an Ultra Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (UDWDM)-Passive Optical Network (PON) system is presented. Here a system with 12 wavelength channels, divided into four blocks of 3 channels each was designed using Block Unequal Channel Spacing Algorithm (BUCSA).Using equal powers at inputs of all channels still produces considerable FWM components, reducing the performance. Hence, a novel scheme, Differential Input Power Scheme (DIPS) was applied by means of optimization of input powers to get the best possible results by reducing the nonlinear effects like four-wave mixing (FWM) effect. The minimum adjacent channel spacing for the proposed system was maintained at 3 GHz for a measurement range of 80 Km of SSMF at a data rate of 1.25 Gbps. Results showed an appreciable improvement in the performance of the UDWDM-PON system. Bit Error Rate (BER) of around 10-9 and a Q factor around 7 was obtained for input powers of 8.125 dBm, 0 dBm and 2.5 dBm in a block of 3 channels respectively. Almost all channels offered BER value better than 10-7.
