Abstract

Asset management (AM) accounting is to be formally adopted by local government in the UK. The Institute of Asset Management (IAM) was set up to raise the profile of AM, determine standards for terminology, methods of application and promote whole life management. It has created a BSI 'Publicly available specification for optimised management of physical infrastructure assets' and published the UK edition of the 'International infrastructure management manual'. Central government departments and client organisations are increasingly looking to formalised asset management to deliver overall improvements. The UK edition of the manual will provide detailed guidance on the processes for implementing asset management planning within an organisation and on lifecycle asset management.
