Abstract
This paper solves the issue of optimal location of phasor measurement unit (PMUs) using excel solver technology. The proposed method is implemented on standard IEEE 7, IEEE 9, IEEE 14, and IEEE 57 bus system. The optimal position of PMUs provides the least number of PMUs to make the network fully observable. By placing the PMU to the bus which has the highest number of incident branches, does not surely make the system observable. In this paper, it has been seen that by placing PMUs on 25% of the bus or somewhere less than 25% makes the complete system observable. The results are compared with different optimization methods.
