Abstract

In this paper, the performance of a rectangular microstrip patch antenna fed by a coaxial probe has been enhanced by perforating elliptically periodic holes in both substrate and resonant element. A parametric analysis of the required number of holes and their dimensions are carried out, in order to increase the gain. The proposed antenna was designed and simulated by CST Microwave Studio. Obtained results that concern the return loss and radiation patterns show the significant enhancement of the antenna gain for the same operating frequency.
