Abstract

Thermal regulation and issues related to health and comfort are central to the design of footwear. A measurement system to determine temperatures within a shoe, which is robust enough for sports has been developed. This was used to measure the temperature profiles in the shoe whilst undergoing physical activity. After 30 minutes temperatures of 42/spl deg/C were recorded and after 60 minutes temperatures of 48/spl deg/C. The profile of temperature varied by 25% across the foot.
