Abstract
Changes in day-to day technologies to implement smart systems pose a challenge to automate the devices. Manual intervention in conventional energy meters induce huge manpower and cost. To overcome the demerits of the conventional energy meter, smart energy metering is introduced. A powerful ARM controller LPC2148 board programmed as Energy Meter fetches inputs from the current and voltage sensor outputs, converts it into digital form. The digitally converted results along with time are multiplied for the calculation of the energy consumption. The bill generated and units consumed for a particular period is being intimated to the particular user and personal computer (programmed as Web Server using Xampp) via a GSM module. The bill is calculated according to the tariff plan charges and updated. The payment is being facilitated via a Web Payment Portal using an Account Number and password. On a bill payment, a message is triggered to the meter indicating bill paid and metering to be continued else a disconnection of the supply will result.
