Abstract

Remote guidance enables untrained users (novices) to solve complex tasks with the help of experts. These scenarios comprise positioning tasks of physical parts to certain poses. The expert indicates the final part's pose into the novice's view. The quality of that indications influences the success of the remote collaboration. No works compare 2D sketches with 3D objects as annotations. We explore the suitability of 2D and 3D annotations in collaborative augmented reality (AR) in three different scenarios. We show that the advantages of 3D annotations increase with task complexity.
