Abstract

IoT or the Internet of Things, is the building block to a more interconnected cooperative future. IoT revolutionizes the modern science by enabling pervasive, smart, situation and context -aware, sensing and actuation of the physical world. (/p) (p)IoT involvement and impact cross cuts multiple application domains. However, the isolated design and deployment of IoT systems limited their abilities to cooperate. Such cooperation would bring many benefits such as; extending the lifetime of devices via cooperative communication, sharing information for enhanced resource utilization, enhancing reliability by potential redundancy. (/p) (p)In this paper, we discusse the impact of enabling autonomous cooperation between heterogeneous IoT devices through a health care case study. The paper presented the key enablers, our design for cooperative IoT system, and a study of the impact of such cooperation on a cardiovascular patient. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed system in minimizing the consumed power. Further, the performance of the system are measured through throughput and prove the effectiveness of the proposed system in saving patients’ life.
