Abstract
An improved hard-decision algorithm to estimate the stream of transmitted bits is studied for non-coherent demodulation of 2PPM IR-UWB signals based on energy detection (ED). By observing the structure of 2PPM transmitted signal, a redundancy is found at physical level and is used at the logical decisional level. Thus, for the detection part based on the values at the integrators outputs, a supplementary analysis of a pairs of adjacent integration intervals belonging to subsequent frames is proposed. The performance evaluation of this system shows an improvement of bit error rate, requiring only a small modification of an basic hard-decision ED-receiver.
