Abstract

Petroleum Perspectives: A Documentary Series is a case study of the Alberta oil sands and the political, economic and environmental implications of the continued growth of the oil industry in Alberta. This project complements the issues-based approach to the new Grade 9 Social Studies curriculum and will be driven by current events and affairs related to Alberta's energy sector. As we delve further into the case study, students will examine alternative energy projects within the province such as wind and hydropower, and investigate solutions to decrease our economic dependency on oil and its boom and bust cycle.
