A comparison of impact and vibration loading on locomotive crew members with exposures in activities of daily living

Abstract

The levels of impact and vibration loading experienced by locomotive crewmembers have been measured for a variety of rail yard and over-the-road operations. These levels are compared to the acceleration levels experienced in such typical daily activities as walking, running and descending stairs. The typical daily activities exposure is derived from a series of tests in which subjects instrumented with accelerometers performed the tasks of interest.
