Abstract
A novel active drain bias termination, allowing automatic gain control, for a 40Gbps optical modulator driver design is presented. The performances of distributed amplifier MMICs using this new termination as well as standard active and passive drain bias terminations are measured and compared. The results confirm the advantages of the new design.
