However, the known techniques of intensity transformation have a number of disadvantages, which significantly limit their use in automatic mode. A new approach to image intensity transformation based on equalizing the distribution of brightness increments of objects in the image is proposed. The proposed approach provides an effective increase in the image contrast without the emergence of unwanted artifacts and without decreasing the contrast of objects with small sizes and has several advantages compared with the well-known technique of histogram equalization. Abstract
