Abstract

This chapter chronicles the early years of Naw Sheera's marriage, during which time she had to live on her own as a single mother because her husband was constantly on the move. The Karen Revolution was still ongoing, and Naw Sheera had to be prepared to run as she had once tried to run from the Japanese. In addition to these difficulties, she also had to raise her children alone. Though Saw Ralph tried to be present in her life, it was clear that he was very much new to fatherhood and had considerable difficulty adjusting to having a wife and children to look after. Aside from Naw Sheera's home life, this chapter also depicts her flight from, and eventual capture, by the Burmese.
