Applications and Design of Composite Insulated Cross Arms

Abstract

The use of composite insulated cross arms allows development of more efficient and high performing overhead transmission lines and can economically solve various issues of existing lines via retrofitting. This paper presents different applications of composite insulated cross arms for new build compact lines or upgrading of existing assets using case studies and recent projects. In addition, the requirements for electrical and mechanical design and testing of insulated cross arms are also summarized.
