Abstract
Bulk active region DBR lasers emitting at 1.55 mum with no absorbing section have been evaluated as optical source for microwave signal generation. These devices self pulsate at 34 GHz with a linewidth of about 150 kHz, making it suitable for low jitter signal generation. Both electrical and optical active mode-locking were successfully obtained with this component opening the field of this device to microwave carrier distribution and regeneration
