Abstract

Studying the world of sports helps us to understand and explain precisely, and from a holistic perspective, the broader social world of which it is part of. Although in the sociological tradition the world of sport has been conceived as a reflection of the social world, it is also true that the relationship between both has been approached from perspectives dealing mainly with symbolism, ritual, identity or violence, and mostly focusing on spectators. In this text we will closely analyze the processes of production of professional players and their ensuing subjectivation process as individuals. We will ask ourselves about the type of subject that is being produced in the Junior categories of professional football. We raise a social-anthropological debate about how to conceive the subject in base football. We will bring the topic of plurality in the partial structures of socialization that the subject participates in, and move onto thinking about how the aquisition of football habitus is produced in a plural subject with different kinds of knowledge, in a way which re-structures ways of living and understanding the world. This type of subject will lead us to ponder about new kinds of modern identities, and to finally think about football players’ bodies as the physical locus of the discourses and practices of different socializing devices.
