Abstract
A patch antenna with slot as shown in Fig.1 can have up to 40% band [1], and yet very simple to fabricate. This antenna therefore is highly desirable and yet its design theory is not clear because the detailed mechanism of the U-slot is still unknown. This paper is an attempt to remedy this situation based on a fusing of EM and the filter-circuit theory to identify the importance design parameters and interpret their interactions.
