The simulated results show that the impedance bandwidth of the antenna is 6.9-8.9GHz, and the 3dB axial ratio bandwidth is 7.21–8.50GHz. Abstract

A broadband circularly polarized (CP) metasurface antenna based on double pentagonal elements is proposed. The antenna is mainly composed of a microstrip coupling feeding I-shaped slot, a metasurface and an air layer. The I-shaped slot generates linearly polarized (LP) waves, and the metasurface completes the conversion from LP waves to CP waves. The simulated results show that the impedance bandwidth of the antenna is 6.9-8.9GHz, and the 3dB axial ratio bandwidth is 7.21–8.50GHz. It can be widely used in wireless communication systems for simple structure and wide 3dB axial ratio bandwidth.
