Abstract
The historical and the contemporary status of the Diocese of Buda as a Serbian church organization on the territory of today's Hungary is analyzed throughout the article. The starting point is the general historical context and the eras (from the early Middle Ages until nowadays) in which the Serbs inhabited this territory, passing through many changes, state and political establishments, as well as different phases of integration. The Serbs have - through their exponents - significantly contributed to the entire society and culture, managed to survive until today, and gained the status of one the most organized communities outside the motherland. The Diocese of Buda, acting through its institutions: monasteries, parish churches, church art collections (museums), libraries and archives, is the best representative of the Serbian cultural identity and heritage in Hungary and contemporary Europe.
