Abstract

This chapter highlights Jane’s foray into independent production by forming Russ-Field, a joint venture with Robert Waterfield, and filming done at such a breakneck pace that it took a physical and emotional toll on her. Films included in this chapter are Foxfire, Gentlemen Marry Brunettes, The Tall Men, Hot Blood, and The Revolt of Mamie Stover. Also discussed is Jane’s extraordinary contract with Howard Hughes that would pay her $1,000 a week for twenty years.
