Inductive loop technology (LOT) as an alternative surface surveillance system-demonstration results

Abstract

Under the Runway Incursion Reduction Program (RIRP), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the use of inductive loop technology (LOT) as an alternative non-cooperative surveillance sensor. A LOT surveillance system has been installed at Long Beach Airport (LGB) in California. This paper presents some test results and status of this implementation of an existing technology inductive loops, into a new area-the airport surface. The paper will provide an overview of the program, technologies investigated and test results obtained from the installation at Long Beach airport.
