Abstract
Introduction : Fetal alcohol syndrome is known as a pattern of malformations observed in newborns of mothers who used alcohol during pregnancy. Presents a difficult diagnosis, it is based on clinical observation and confirmation of the mother alcohol intake. Objective: Conduct literature review on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Methodology: This is a literature review with electronic database, Scielo, Virtual Health Library - VHL, Google Scholar, Lilacs. online journals were included in Portuguese, French and English, published between 1978 and 2016. The studies did not address descriptors and did not meet the objective of the research were excluded. Results and increasing discussion: The prevalence of FAS is not proportional to reality, as well as their diagnosis because the clinical signs are large and some are not manifested immediately after birth. The SAF is a syndrome related to the consumption of alcohol, drugs widely distributed in the world, is that it has little study and analysis of the syndrome in the population. Becomes a public health problem, and requires the demonstration of governments to have a better approach. Conclusion : It is a little known syndrome and studied and ends up being misdiagnosed by the clinician.
