Abstract
Several investigators have reported that microwaves irradiation on animals (rabbits) produces alterations in the electroencephalogramn (EEG). The changes in EEG tracing, which is found in sleep or in anesthesia, were interpreted as the phenomena of inhibit ion of the higher nervous function (1). Many other experiences prove that inicrowave exposure can disturb the equilibrium between the processes of excitation and inhibition in the nervous system (2). The interaction with peripheral nerves is responsible for microwave-induced effects on the central nervous system (CNS) responses. An acupuncture point is an area where there are many peripheral nerve fibres and some special points can be stimulated to obtain analgesia effects. Applying microwaves to stimulate some acupuncture points, we observed that the pain threshold was significantly increased (3).
