Abstract

This paper contains a critical review of the simplified method, proposed in the standard EN 1992-1-1 Eurocode 2: Design of Concrete Structures. Part 1-1. General Rules and Rules for Buildings, applied to calculating the width of cracks appearing in bent reinforced concrete sections, where non-linear concrete creep appears. The standard method has been compared with an analytical method improved by the authors with respect to non-linear creep. Using the latter approach, an effect of non-linear creep on deformations of concrete, reinforcement steel and crack widths was analysed. Two numerical examples of calculations of crack widths according to the proposed method were presented.
