Abstract

Recently, some regional ocean observation networks using submarine cables are proposed or being planned all over the world to gather three-dimensional continuous, and long-term multidisciplinary data in vast area. Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) will also play an important role in this observation system. In this paper, the authors will show the present status and the future plans of cabled ocean observatory networks in Japan, and envisioned AUV's role in the observation system.
