Review on Camel Pox: Epidemiology, Public Health and Diagnosis

Abstract

There are approximately 20 million camels in the world of which 15 million in Africa and 5 million in Asia (GLIPHA, 2006). In 2001 the total camel population was 19 million of which 17 million were dromedaries (Camel dromedaries, one humped) and 2 million were Bactrian camels (Camel bactrianus, two humped camel) (Farah et al, 2004). Ethiopia possesses over one million Camelus dromedaries mainly distributed in the Southern, Eastern and Northeast regions (CSA, 2008).
