Abstract
Musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) affect workers in many occupations including transport drivers. Individual studies on musculoskeletal disorders from jeepney, taxi, and bus drivers were undertaken but there is no study to evaluate these three transport drivers and provide ergonomic interventions among them. In this regard, the paper intends to assess the degree of musculoskeletal disorders on significant factors affecting the three transport motor vehicles with respect to demographic profiles and tasks drivers perform. It also intends to assess the level of musculoskeletal discomforts of body parts of transport motor vehicle drivers from the identified significant factors, and propose ergonomic interventions to address prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders among the three transport drivers. Assessment on the MSDs of these transport drivers using CMDQ and RULA were undertaken. Moreover, the analysis of significance among various factors to their body parts was undertaken using the Chi-square test and regression analysis. The results showed that there was significant association on the body parts of jeepney, taxi and bus drivers on the CMDQ and RULA values. The three transport drivers indicated that their neck, lower back, lower legs, upper arm and wrists were the top five most common body parts with MSDs. As such, the paper recommends proposed ergonomics interventions for these four body parts.
