View of Self Scale: Measuring Negative Self-Referential Thoughts in Depression

Abstract

Negative beliefs regarding the self are a key feature of depression, over and above beliefs about the future or beliefs about the world. A clinically relevant measure of self-view could help further understanding of the relationship between depression and an individual's view of self. Assessing negative beliefs about the self could also help clinicians identify targets for treatment and monitor progress during psychotherapy for depression.
