Notes on the Comanche Sound System

Abstract

The Comanche language has many of the same sounds as English, and a few sounds that are different. This overall similarity has made it possible for many of the Comanche names and terms in this book to be trans-posed into an orthography that is fairly close to the actual sounds of Comanche. When both a good written representation and a more or less ac-curate translation of a form exist, we have often, but not always, been able to analyze that form.
