Labor Market Policy and the Employment Situation in Austria

Abstract

1. The Austrian labor market, stable for years, is now also stirring, if without major perturbations, thanks to the methodical endeavors of the "Alpine republic" to maintain a slow growth. In 1986, there were 151, 972 unemployed (rate 5. 2 percent); in 1987 this figure had risen to only 164, 700 (5. 7 percent). The number of non-self-employed was just over 2. 7 million.
