The role of monumental trees and old-growth forests in biodiversity conservation

Abstract

Monumental trees and old-growth forests are important elements for biodiversity conserva-tion. Large or veteran trees in forests as well as urban areas, provide numerous ecological niches to a variety of animal and plant species, also of conservation interest, which are largely dependent on bigger trees.
