Abstract

This paper illustrates a review on Electric Vehicles battery chargers that could be compared and classified according to several categories. The study focuses on the fast charging stations, that are off-board chargers, and more specifically on bidirectional AC/DC converters that constitute an integral part of the fast charging station. AC/DC converters interface with the grid and the DC/DC converters, and they must satisfy the grid requirements and specifications. Moreover, this paper points up the problems associated with conventional two-levels AC/DC converters and highlights the importance of using multilevel converters instead.
