Abstract

We developed multi-channel write head and GMR head with a stacked structure using the thin-film fabrication process. We established the feasibility of a recording density over 4.3Gb/inch2 using multi-channel heads and ME tape. A tape system of over 1TB per cassette using 8mm tape is possible using multi-channel heads.
